How prediction market fees actually work
Probability-weighted taker fee
Formula: 0.07 × P × (1−P) per contract. Peaks at 1.75¢ per contract at 50¢. Zero fee for politics and policy markets. ACH and wire deposits are free; debit card deposits carry a fee of up to 2%.
Category-specific taker fee
Same probability-weighted curve, but the constant varies by market type. Sports: 0.05; Crypto: 0.07; Finance, Politics, Tech: 0.04. Geopolitics and world events are completely fee-free. Makers earn daily rebates.
Profit fee + withdrawal fee
10% fee on net profit for winning trades, then a 5% fee on net proceeds when you withdraw. No fee on losing trades. These fees compound, so a winning trade at a low price pays both charges.
Frequently asked questions
Do prediction markets charge fees on losing trades?
Kalshi and Polymarket charge taker fees only when you enter a trade on winning-side contracts. If your market resolves against you, you lose your stake but pay no additional fee. PredictIt charges its 10% profit fee only on winning trades.
What is the maximum fee I can pay on Kalshi?
Kalshi's fee peaks at 1.75¢ per contract at a 50¢ market price (50% probability). At more extreme prices — say 10¢ or 90¢ — the fee drops significantly because the probability-weighted formula reduces toward zero at the extremes.
Why does Polymarket have different fees for different market types?
Polymarket introduced category-specific fees in early 2026 to balance liquidity incentives across market types. High-volatility categories like crypto carry higher fee rates. Geopolitical and world-events markets remain fee-free.
Does it cost money to deposit into Kalshi or Polymarket?
ACH and wire deposits on Kalshi are free. Debit card and Apple Pay deposits carry a fee of up to 2%. Polymarket uses USDC on the Polygon network — there are no Polymarket platform fees to deposit or withdraw, but Polygon gas fees of approximately $0.01–$0.05 apply.
How does the PredictIt withdrawal fee compound with the profit fee?
PredictIt applies the 10% profit fee first, then the 5% withdrawal fee to the remaining net proceeds. So if you invest $50 at 65¢ and win: gross payout is $76.92, the 10% profit fee on $26.92 profit is $2.69, leaving $74.23 in net proceeds. The 5% withdrawal fee on $74.23 is $3.71, leaving you $70.52 net.
Are these fees the same for every market on the platform?
Not always. Kalshi has specific series with different fee multipliers — some markets use a reduced multiplier, lowering the effective fee. Polymarket fees apply only to markets with fees enabled; pre-existing markets may be fee-free. Always check the specific market's fee schedule.
Where can I confirm current fee rates before I trade?
Kalshi publishes its official fee schedule at kalshi.com/fee-schedule. Polymarket publishes its fee structure at docs.polymarket.com/trading/fees. PredictIt fee terms are available at predictit.org/fees. Always verify at the primary source before trading.
